Poison is one of the most striking and talked-about characters in Capcom history. From her pixelated debut in Final Fight to her bold appearances in Street Fighter, she’s evolved into a cult favorite — bold, stylish, and always a little mysterious. Here are 25 must-know facts about Poison, the whip-wielding femme fatale of Metro City:

Poison Facts

She is a character in both the Final Fight and Street Fighter series of video games.

She is Caucasian with long pink (sometimes purple) hair, wears a black cap, choker, blue cutoff shorts, red high heels, and a cut-off tank top.

In some appearances , she uses a whip. Her handcuffs can also be used as a projectile.

She has ties with the original Mad Gear gang. In Street Fighter III games, she is the wrestling manager of Hugo, a former Mad Gear member.

She became a playable character for the first time in Final Fight Revenge (1999), a 3D fighting game released for arcades and Sega Saturn in Japan only.

Even within Capcom, Poison’s gender has been treated ambiguously. Capcom USA and Capcom Japan have given contradictory statements about whether she is a trans woman or a cisgender woman.

Her name, “Poison,” reflects her dangerous allure — beautiful and deadly — and plays into the punk aesthetic of the Mad Gear gang.

Poison has a rivalry with Cody, one of the main heroes from Final Fight, and often mocks or flirts with him. She also clashes with Chun-Li and Ryu in Street Fighter IV.

Poison often uses flirtation and sarcasm in her dialogue. She toys with her opponents and acts in a confident, over-the-top way that contrasts with other fighters.

Due to Western sensitivities in the 90s, Nintendo removed Poison and Roxy from the SNES version of Final Fight, replacing them with male enemies named Billy and Sid.

Poison is part of the Mad Gear Gang, the criminal syndicate causing chaos across Metro City. She served as a street enforcer, often alongside Andore, Abigail, and Roxy.

Poison was created by Akira Nishitani, who also helped develop Street Fighter II. Her edgy look and fierce presence helped her stand out from typical enemy characters.
