WHAT HAPPENED?
After a remarkable performance at EURO 2024, Romania’s coaching position is changing hands. Having parted ways with Edward Iordanescu, the Romanian Football Federation is bringing the country’s football legend in charge of the national team.
BIG PICTURE: According to Daniel Nanu, Gheorghe Hagi is the first choice for coach in Romania. Razvan Burleanu, the president of the Romanian Football Federation, has already started negotiations. The 59-year-old Romanian legend has long been coaching Farul Constanta, which he owns. If Hagi takes charge of the team, it will be his second term in Romania. The first adventure of Hagi, who became the coach of the Romanian National Team immediately after leaving football at Galatasaray, where he was a legend, was short-lived. Edward Iordanescu left the Romanian coaching staff after EURO 2024.
