Ann Margret Biography

Ann-Margret was born on 28 April 1941 in Valsjöbyn village of Jämtland, Sweden.

Her full-name is Ann-Margret Olsson. Her mother was Anna Regina and her father was Carl Gustav Olsson. When Ann-Margret was 5-years old, she and her mother migrated to the US in November 1946 and settled to Winnetka right outside of Chicago. Her mother worked as a receptionist in a funeral house.

In 1949, she became a US citizen. She took her first dance lessons in Marjorie Young School of Dance. She graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. She was admitted to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois but she never graduated.


When she was a student at Northwestern University, an actor liked her signing in November 1960 and invited her to Las Vegas. Ann-Margret started recording in 1961 for RCA Victor. She signed a 7-years of the contract with 20th Century Fox in 1961.

She played Bette Davis’ daughter in 1961 in Frank Capra’s “Pocketful of Miracles” movie. In 1964, she was starred in “Viva Las Vegas” musical comedy with Elvis Presley. She starred with Steve McQueen in “The Cincinnati Kid” movie in 1965 and with Dean Martin in “Murderers’ Row” in 1966.

After starring in movies until 1966, she gave a break to making movies until 1970 and went to Italy. When she got back to Hollywood in 1970, she starred with actors such as Anthony Quinn, Anthony Hopkins, Walter Matthau, Gene Hackman, Glenda Jackson and Roy Scheider in successful movies.

She starred with Anthony Quinn in “R.P.M.” movie in 1970. She starred in “A Streetcar Named Desire” by Tennessee Williams in 1983. She was together with actor Burt Sugarman in 1962.
Ann-Margret married to actor Roger Smitty on 08 May 1967 in LAs Vegas Riviera Hotel.
In 1992, Christian Bale, David Moscow, Bill Pullman, Robert Duvall and Ann-Margret starred together in “Newsies” musical drama movie directed by Kenny Ortega.

In 1993, she starred with Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau and Daryl Hannah in “Grumpy Old Men” movie. In 2017, she starred with Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Alan Arkin, Matt Dillon in “Going in Style” movie.
