1. The surname of Stefan and Damon brothers would not actually be Salvatore. In the first draft of the script, the surnames were referred to as Whitmore. This name, which will be linked to an uncle named Zach Whitmore, was later disapproved in the final version of the script. The producers, Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, who thought that Salvatore was very Italian and wanted to use an American-style name, decided to use the surname in the book series as a result. The name Whitmore later appeared as the name of the university where Elena went.
2. In the book of the series, the name of the town, which was called Fell’s Church, was changed to Mystic Falls in the television adaptation. Considering that the original name evokes religion and spirituality, Julie Plec made such a change because they wanted the main idea of the series to contain more than the concept of heaven-hell. Although there is no story about how the name Mystic Falls was chosen, this imaginary town is located southwest of Virginia and was founded in 1859. The local newspaper of the town, where 6,923 people live, is called “Mystic Falls Daily.” The most distinctive feature of the town is that it hosts a separate festivity and celebration every day
3. Some of the main characters of the series speak English as well as different languages. Sofia – Bulgaria-born Nina Dobrev speaks Bulgarian perfectly even though she settled in Canada when she was two years old with her family. Paul Wesley can speak Polish. Wesley, whose parents are Polish and the majority of his family is still living in Poland, spent four months of the year living outside of Poland during his growing ages. Kat Graham, on the other hand, has been accustomed to many different cultures since her childhood, thanks to her grandfather being the United Nations Ambassador. As a result, she can speak Spanish, French, and Hebrew.
4. Oliver Queen of Arrow, again a CW series, had auditioned for two different characters in Stephen Amell’s the Vampire Diaries. So, what characters are these? One is Elijah Mikaelson, and the other is Mason Lockwood. (Good thing he wasn’t chosen, or we’d be deprived of Daniel Gillies or Taylor Kinney) Though we watched him play the role of a werewolf, Jules’ jealous boyfriend, in two episodes of the second season. Stephen Amell, who also appeared in two episodes of 90210, another CW series, is currently building a huge fan base for his role in Arrow. Meanwhile, Jessica Simpson’s sister Ashlee Simpson had also auditioned for the role of Elena, but she later played the role of Violet in Melrose Place, a CW series whose screen life was short-lived.
5. Ian Somerhalder, who portrays Damon, the series’ favorite character, had auditioned for another vampire-themed series ahead of the Vampire Diaries. So if you ask which series it is, the answer is True Blood of which this summer we will watch the final season. Ian Somerhalder auditioned for Sookie’s brother Jason Stackhouse in the series. The cast of Somerhalder, who thought this role was perfect for him, was so bad that the handsome actor never saw the first few seasons of the series. It’s a good thing he wasn’t chosen because watching him as Sookie’s witless brother Jason could have been very painful indeed.
6. We can say that The Vampire Diaries set has been instrumental in many romantic relationships besides shooting. The most striking among them was the relationship between Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder. The couple, who have been together for three years, unfortunately, parted ways in May 2013. Zach Roerig, whom we watched as Matt in the series, and our lovely Caroline Candice Accola, dated in 2011. Accola is currently engaged to The Fray band guitarist Joe King. Paul Wesley married Torrey Devitto, who portrayed Dr. Meredith fell in the series in 2011. But the couple divorced in December 2013. Wesley is rumored to be with Phoebe Tonkin, who we now watch as Hayley in The Originals.
7. The Red Cross and The Vampire Diaries team came together for a campaign aimed at donating blood to young people. “Starve a Vampire. Donate Blood” was featured on the posters of the campaign, as well as information about blood donation and the series’ actors. While the young people who participated in the campaign, which was held in 230 different high schools and universities for five weeks, also won small gifts about the series, they were able to watch images from the series while donating blood.
8. The Vampire Diaries was among the best series in the ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards in 2012 and 2013. Joseph Morgan, who played Klaus in the series, won the favorite villain award at the TV Guide Awards in 2013. The series is also among the indispensable productions of the Young People’s Choice Awards in 2011, 2012, and 2013. During the award ceremony held in 2013, Nina Dobrev was selected as the best actress, Ian Somerhalder as the best actor, and the best fantastic science fiction series award was the fourth time of The Vampire Diaries.
9. The pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. After the approval of the broadcast, the set of the series was moved to the state of Georgia. The biggest reason for this is that the shooting cost of the series is reduced even more thanks to tax discounts. The majority of shootings take place in the city of Covington. The population of the city, where 13,347 people live, has twice the population of our dream town Mystic Falls. However, most of Covington residents are not very happy with the noise that the set creates, because most of the shots take place either very early in the morning or very late in the evening.
10. Nina Dobrev, whom we watch in the role of Elena Gilbert, was born on January 9, 1989. Steven R. McQueen, who is his younger brother Jeremy, whom we cannot remember how many times he died and was resurrected throughout the series, was born July 13, 1988. Although Elena is two years older than her brother in the series, she is six months younger than Steven in real life. When the series started, the characters played by two players in their 20s were going to high school at the time. This also applies to Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer in the Friends series. Despite being one year older than Ross Monica in the series, she is two years older than David Courteney in real life.
