LYRICS

Every step of the way
We walk the line
Your days are numbered
So are mine
Time is piling up
We struggle and we scrape
All boxed in
Nowhere to escape
The city’s just a jungle
More games to play
I’m trapped in the heart of it
Trying to get away
I was raised in the country
Been working in the town
I been in trouble since i
Set my suitcase down
I ain’t got nothing for you
I had nothing before
Don’t even have anything
For myself anymore
Sky’s full of fire
And the rain is pouring down
There’s nothing you can sell me
So i’ll see you around
All my powers of expression
And thoughts so sublime
Could never do you justice
Reason or rhyme
There’s only one thing that i did wrong
I stayed in mississippi a day too long
The devil’s in the alley
The mule kickin’ in the stall
Say anything you wanna
I’ve heard it all
I was thinking about the things that she said
I was dreaming i was sleeping in you bed
Walking through the leaves
Falling from the trees
Feel like a stranger nobody sees
So many things we never will undo
I know you’re sorry, well i’m sorry too
Some people will offer you their hand and some won’t
Last night i knew you, tonight i don’t
I need something strong to distract my mind
I’m gonna look at you till my eyes go blind
Well i got here, following the southern star
I crossed that river just to be where you are
There’s only one thing that i did wrong
I stayed in mississippi a day too long
Well my ship’s been split to splinters
I’s sinking fas
T i’m drowning in the poison
Got no future
Got no past
But my heart is not weary, it’s light and it’s free
I’ve got nothing but affection for those who’ve sailed with me
Everybody’s moving if they ain’t already there
Everybody’s got to move somewhere
Well stick with me baby anyhow
Things should start to get interesting right about now
My clothes are wet
Tight on my skin
Not as tight as the corner that i painted myself in
I know that fortune is waiting to be kind
So give me your hand and say you’ll be mine
The emptiness is endless
Cold as clay
You can always come back
But you can’t come back all the way
Well there’s only one thing that i did wrong
I stayed in mississippi a day too long
Yeah the only thing that i did wrong
Was stayed in mississippi a day too long
The only thing that i did wrong
Was stayed in mississippi a day too long

JANUARY 1, 2002 – 56-year-old Eric Clapton married the 25-year-old American graphic designer Melia McEnery in front of a surprised crowd at the 15th century St. Mary Magdalen church near London in Ripley, Surrey, England.

JANUARY 1, 1975 – Recording artist duo Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham officially joined Fleetwood Mac, bringing with them the songs “Rhiannon” and “Landslide”. The group would first perform with the new lineup on May 15th.The pair met while they were both attending Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, California, south of San Francisco. At the time, Nicks was a senior in high school and Buckingham, one year younger than her, was a junior. According to Nicks, they first met at a casual, after-school Young Life gathering in 1966. They found themselves harmonizing to what some accounts claim was a Beach Boys song, although Nicks herself claims they sang “California Dreamin’,” a hit single by The Mamas and The Papas, in an interview she gave with The Source in 1981. Nevertheless, Nicks and Buckingham did not collaborate again for another two years. In 1968, Buckingham invited Nicks to sing in Fritz, a band he was playing bass guitar for with some of his high school friends.

DECEMBER 31, 1976 – The Cars played their first show at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire and spent early 1977 playing throughout New England, developing the songs that appeared on their debut album. A nine-song demo tape was recorded in early 1977 and soon “Just What I Needed” was getting heavy airplay on Boston radio stations WBCN and WCOZ.[6] By virtue of that airplay, the band was signed to Elektra Records. The band’s debut album, The Cars, was released in June 1978, reaching No. 18 on the Billboard 200. “Just What I Needed” was released as the debut single from the album, followed by “My Best Friend’s Girl” and “Good Times Roll”, all three charting on the Billboard Hot 100. The album also featured multiple album tracks that received substantial airplay, such as “You’re All I’ve Got Tonight”, “Bye Bye Love”, and “Moving in Stereo”.

DECEMBER 31, 1984 – Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen, on his way to a New Year’s Eve party at his family’s home, crashed his Corvette Stingray on the A57 outside Sheffield, England, losing his left arm in the accident. The crash occurred when Allen was speeding on a country road near Sheffield, and Jaguar passed him. The driver had been egging Allen on and would not allow him to pass. In his rage to pass this driver, he did not see a turn up ahead and lost control of his car.He misjudged a curve, crashed through a stone wall and flipped his car several times. Wearing an improperly fastened seat belt, the musician was ejected from the vehicle, although as he told the BBC, “I think my arm was left in the car.” A medical professional who fortunately lived nearby packed Allen’s arm in ice, but attempts to re-attach it to his body failed due to infection.

DECEMBER 27, 1967 – The Doors appeared on the CBS-TV program “The Jonathan Winters Show” recorded in Los Angeles, California. Although The Doors all loved Jonathan Winters and his comedy, they never really considered appearing on his show. But when they were asked, they jumped at the opportunity to appear with a comedian they all admired. They were asked to perform “Light My Fire” and another song of their choice. As their other song, they chose “Moonlight Drive.” Both songs were to use a prerecorded musical soundtrack but have a live vocal from Jim. They performed “Moonlight Drive” first on a multi-level stage complete with a smoke machine and planetary stock footage overlayed onto the performance. The performance of “Light My Fire” was odd to say the least. The band was set up among a series of poles with spaghetti wire strung between them, and throughout the performance the producers added a wavy effect to the video, plus showed a red police siren as Jim sang. To top it off, at the end of the song, Jim lept into a section of the wires and pulled a portion of the set down on top of him.
