OCTOBER 13, 1992 – Linda McCartney released “Linda McCartney’s Sixties: Portrait of an Era,” a collection of her most memorable works as a rock photographer. The book includes photos of The Rolling Stones, The Beatles (including husband Paul McCartney), The Who, the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison (The Doors), Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Otis Redding.
The Doors opened their set with “Moonlight Drive” from their newest album “Strange Days,” released just three weeks before. And then it was “Break on Through” and “Backdoor Man,” “People Are Strange,” “Crystal Ship” and, following a wild piece of Morrison’s avant-garde poetry called “Wake Up!,” they did a masterly version of “Light My Fire.” And then, inevitably, as sort of a required encore, came the extravaganza of “The End,” with its dark theatrics, role playing, and intimations of violence and incest. Here Morrison went into full Morrison mode, leaping from the stage and writhing down in front of the front row, before returning to the stage, at the very end of “The End,” to repeatedly smash his mic stand onto the floor.
OCTOBER 14, 1966 – Grace Slick made her first stage appearance with the band Jefferson Airplane at their Fillmore West gig in San Francisco. Slick, who had previously fronted The Great Society, replaced singer Signe Toly Anderson (the vocalist on their debut LP “Jefferson Airplane Takes Off”) who left the group to raise her first child.
OCTOBER 10, 1980 – The funeral of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham took place at Rushock Parish Church in Worcestershire. Around 250 mourners attended, made up of family, friends, band mates and other musicians including: Roy Wood, Denny Laine, Bev Bevan and Jeff Lynne. Paul McCartney left a wreath and tributes flooded in from fellow drummers including Carmine Appice, Phil Collins, Cozy Powell and Carl Palmer. After the family service, the funeral procession made its way to Worcester Crematorium where the final service was held.

Fiona AppleEvery Single NightLyrics
Every single night I endure the flight Of little wings of white flame Butterflies in my brain These ideas of mine Percolate the mind Trickle down my spine Swarm the belly, swelling to a blaze That’s where the pain comes in Like a second skeleton Trying to fit beneath the skin I can’t fit the feelings in, no Every single night’s alight with my brain

What I need is a good defense ‘Cause I’m feeling like a criminal And I need to be redeemed To the one I’ve sinned against Because he’s all I ever knew of love

I let the beast in and then I even tried forgiving him, but it’s too soon So I’ll fight again, again, again, again, again And for a little while more I’ll soar the uneven wind, complain and blame the sterile land But if you’re getting any bright ideas, quiet dear I’m blooming within

Pale September, I wore the time like a dress that year The autumn days swung soft around me, like cotton on my skin But as the embers of the summer lost their breath and disappeared My heart went cold and only hollow rhythms resounded from within But then he rose, brilliant as the moon in full And sank in the burrows of my keep
