1934 Kamahl (Kanadiah Kamalsvaran) born in Malaysia. Australain Singer. He came to Australia in 1954 to study architecture. 
1944 Timmy Thomas born in Evansville, Indiana. US Singer/Pianist/Songwriter. Also as a session musician. (1972 US No.3 & 1973 UK No.12 single ‘Why Can’t We Live Together’). 
1946 Country singer-songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard is born in Soper, Oklahoma. Wrote the Jerry Jeff Walker song “Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother” (1973). 
1947 Toy Caldwell born inSpartanburg, South Carolina, He was the ead guitarist, main songwriter and a founding member of the 1970s Southern Rock group The Marshall Tucker Band. He was a member of the band from its formation up until 1983. In addition to his guitarist role, he occasionally performed lead vocals for Marshall Tucker Band, including on one of the band’s best-known hits, “Can’t You See.” He was the older brother of co-founder and bass guitarist Tommy Caldwell, who was killed at age 30 in an automobile accident on April 28, 1980, and to Tim Caldwell, who on March 28, 1980, one month prior to Tommy’s death, was killed at age 25 in a collision with a Spartanburg County garbage truck on S.C. Highway 215.

1949 Rocker Terry Reid is born in Huntingdon, England. Known for ’60s songs like “Better By Far” and The Hollies’ “A Man With No Expression,” which he wrote with Graham Nash(later recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Youngas “Horses Through a Rainstorm”). 
1951 Bill Gibson born in California. Drummer with Huey Lewis and the News, (1985 US No.1 & UK No.11 single ‘The Power Of Love’). 
1953 Andrew Ranken, drums, The Pogues, (1987 UK No.8 single ‘The Irish Rover’). 
1956 The duo Buchanan and Goodman go to court over their song “Flying Saucer,” which incorporates bits of other hit songs. The first use of sampling in the Rock era, the song made #3 on the Hot 100 in America. 
1960 Wayne Parker – Canadian Bassist with Glass Tiger, (1986 UK No.29 single ‘Don’t Forget Me, When I’m Gone’). 
1966 The Beach Boys, Lulu and David and Jonathan appeared at the Birmingham Theatre, England. 
1968 Rolling Stone Brian Jones bought ‘Cotchford Farm’ in Sussex. The author AA Milne who wrote Winnie The Pooh had owned the house. 
1968 Hugo Montenegro was at No.1 in the UK singles chart with ‘The Good The Bad And The Ugly’, the soundtrack from a Clint Eastwood spaghetti western film 
1968 The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine film premieres in New York. 
1971 Santana scored their second US No.1 album with ‘Santana III’. 
1971 Faces Appearing at The Pavilion, Bath, England, The Faces, tickets 75p. 
1973 Jerry Lee Lewis Jr was killed in a car accident near Hernando, Mississippi. Lewis had been working as the drummer in his father’s band. 
1975 Appearing at The Colston Hall, Bristol, England, Joan Armatrading supported by Supertramp. 
1976 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin scored their 7th UK No.1 album with the film soundtrack to ‘The Song Remains The Same’, it made No.2 in the US 
1976 Rod Stewart started an 8 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Tonight’s The Night’. It was Rod’s second US No.1; it made No.5 in the UK after being banned by many radio stations due to song being about the seduction of a virgin. 
1979 Nikolai Fraiture, bass, The Strokes, (2001 UK No. 14 single, ‘Last Nite’ 2001 UK No.2 album ‘Is This It’). 
1980 Monique Adrienne Coleman, American actress and singer from High School Musical, as part of the cast had the 2006 US No.1 ‘High School Musical’ album and 2007, US No.1 ‘High School Musical 2’ album. Over 17 million viewers in the United States watched the TV premier of High School Musical; making it the highest rated basic cable broadcast in U.S. history. 
1982 Men At Work started a 15-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with their debut album ‘Business As Usual’, which went on to sell over five million copies in the US. 
1982 Former Equals singer Eddie Grant was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘I Don’t Wanna Dance’. 
1990 Patricia Boughton filed a lawsuit against Rod Stewart claiming that a football he kicked into the crowd during a concert at Pine Knob Music Theatre had ruptured a tendon in her middle finger. And as a result the injury had made sex between her and her hus
1992 Ronnie Bond – Drummer of The Troggs died in Hampshire, England. (1966 US No.1 & UK No.2 single ‘Wild Thing’). 
1999 A report showed that The Spice Girls were the highest earners in pop during the 90’s with the album ‘Spice’ selling over £20 million, Elton John was second with 14 million sales from ‘The Lion King’. 
1999 It was announced that Cliff Richard had signed up with Internet company Remotemusic.com, making him the first major artist to sign a deal with an online company. 
1999 Donald Mills, the last surviving member of legendary family vocal group the Mills Brothers, dies in Los Angeles due to complications from pneumonia. He is 84.
1999 R.J. Vealey (drummer for Atlanta Rhythm Section) dies of a heart attack at age 37. 
2000 The Beatles launched their first official websitewww.thebeatles.com. The site went live on the same day as the release of their retrospective ‘Compilation 1.’ 
2002 The three surviving member of Led Zeppelin announced they were re- forming after 22 years for a US stadium tour. 
2004 Rap artist Ol’ Dirty Bastard, (real name Russell Jones), collapsed and died at a Manhattan recording studio in New York aged 35. A spokesman for his record company, said the rapper, had complained of chest pains, was dead by the time paramedics reached hi
2005 Simon Cowell was named Show Business personality of the year by the Variety Club at the show business charity’s annual awards show in London. Katie Melua won recording artist of the year at the event, hosted by singer Myleene Klass. 
2012 The original collage that was reproduced and included in copies of The Beatles’ 1967 classic Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band record sold for $87,720. The piece, which was designed by Peter Blake, was sold to an unnamed bidder as part of an auction of modern British art at Sotheby’s in London. 
2015 Adele’s comeback single ‘Hello’ achieved platinum sales status in the UK, just three weeks after it was released after the chart-topping song sold more than 600,000 copies. 
2016 Leon Russell died in Nashville, he was 74. He led Joe Cocker’s band Mad Dogs & Englishmen, and appeared at George Harrison’s 1971 Concert for Bangladesh. Many of his songs became hits for others, among them ‘Superstar’ (written with Bonnie Bramlett) for the Carpenters, ‘Delta Lady’ for Joe Cocker and ‘This Masquerade’ for George Benson. More than 100 acts have recorded ‘A Song for You,’ which Russell said he wrote in 10 minutes.
