1940 Screamin’ Lord Sutch born in South Harrow, Greater London. UK Singer. Real name Edward. He was friends with and at one time lived at the house of Cynthia Payne.[2] However, he suffered from depression and committed suicide by hanging on 16 June 1999, following the death of his mother on 30 April 1997. At the inquest, his fiancée said he had “manic depression”
1941 Kyu Sakamoto, (1963 US No.1 & UK No.6 single ‘Sukiyaki’, the first ever Japanese US No.1). Killed in a plane crash on 12th August 1985. 
1943 Mel Noonan born in Sydney, NSW. Australian Singer/Songwriter with New World. 
1947 Sir Timothy Miles Bindon “Tim” Rice born in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, England. English author and Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Tony Award, and Grammy Award-winning lyricist. He is best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he wrote Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita; with Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson of ABBA, with whom he wrote Chess; for additional songs for the 2011 West End revival of The Wizard of Oz; and for his work for Walt Disney Studios with Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, King David), Elton John (The Lion King, Aida, The Road to El Dorado) and Ennio Morricone.

He was a singer and bassist for King Crimson before becoming the bassist, guitarist, singer and lyricist for Emerson, Lake & Palmer. 1974 Stephen Garrett (Static Major), American R&B singer, rapper, songwriter and record producer Also a member of the R&B trio Playa. Static Major gained posthumous fame for appearing in Lil Wayne’s 2008 No.1 hit Lollipop. Garrett died on Feb 25th 2008 at his home in Louisville, Kentucky. 
1975 David Bowie was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Space Oddity, (it was first released in 69 to tie in with the Apollo Moon landing). 
1975 Jim Adkins, lead singer and guitarist with Jimmy Eat World. 
1978 Eve, US female rapper, (2001 UK No.4 single, featuring Gwen Stefani, ‘Let Me Blow Ya Mind’). 
1979 Chris Joannon born in New Castle, NSW. Australian Bass Guitarist with Silverchair, (1997 UK No.34 single ‘Freak’). 
1979 Fleetwood Mac scored their second UK No.1 album with ‘Tusk’ 
1979 Chris Joannou born in New Castle, New South Wales. Best known as the bassist for the Newcastle-based alternative rock band Silverchair. (1997 Australian No.1 & UK No.34 single ‘Freak’, 1995 Australian No.1 album ‘Frogstomp’ plus three other Australian No.1 albums). 
1979 The Eagles went to No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Heartache Tonight’, the groups 5th and final US No.1. It made No.40 in the UK. 
1983 Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler married Lourdes Salamona 
1984 After setting a new record for advanced orders, 1,099,500 copies, Frankie Goes To Hollywood went to No.1 on the UK album chart with their debut LP ‘Welcome To The Pleasure Dome.’ Also on this day Frankie Goes To Hollywood made their debut TV appearance on Saturday Night Live performing ‘Two Tribes’ and ‘Born To Run’. 
1984 Former Rufus singer Chaka Khan was at No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘I Feel For You.’ Written by Prince the song featured Stevie Wonder on harmonica and the Rap was by Grandmaster Melle Mel. 
1989 The Wonder Stuff kicked off a 14 date tour at SFX, Dublin. 
1990 Elton John started a two- week run at No.1 on the UK album chart with ‘The Very Best Of Elton John’. 
1990 Mariah Carey started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Love Takes Time’, her second US No.1, a No.37 hit in the UK. 
1990 Vanilla Ice started a 16- week run at No.1 on the US album chart with ‘To The Extreme’. 
1997 Session guitarist Tommy Tedesco died of lung cancer. Worked with The Beach Boys, Cher, Frank Zappa, The Supremes and 5th Dimension. 
1999 Eighties hit making team Stock, Aitken and Waterman went to court fighting over song rights. Stock and Aitken claimed Waterman owed them hundreds of thousands of pounds as musicians and songwriters. 
2001 Wheatus kicked off a 23-date UK tour at Liverpool’s Royal Court. 
2002 Keyboard player Johnny Griffith died. Had been a member of the Motown records house band, played on Marvin Gaye’s ‘Heard It Through The Grapevine.’ 
2002 Viewers of the UK music channel VH1 voted ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston as the number 1 most romantic song ever. In 2nd place Elvis Presley, ‘You Were Always On My Mind’ and 3rd place went to ‘My Heart Will Go On’. 
2002 Westlife went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with ‘Unbreakable’ the Irish bands record breaking 11th Uk No.1. 
2002 UK boy band Blue scored their second UK No.1 album with ‘One Love.’ 
2002 Eminem was at No.1 on the US album chart with the ‘8 Mile Soundtrack.’ 
2004 Police questioned Sugababe singer Mutya Buena after she was involved in a fight at a beauty contest. A scuffle broke out in the audience as points were being awarded to girls in the Miss Teen Philippines contest in which Mutya’s sister was competing. 
2004 A Dutch man was jailed for nine months for harassing former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm. The unnamed 39-year-old sent the singer parcels, letters and tapes during 2001. Dutch police searched the man’s home after he tried to hand-deli
2007 The mother of Kanye West died after complications following surgery at the age of 58. She was taken to hospital in Los Angeles after she had stopped breathing at home and could not be resuscitated. Dr Donda West had managed her son’s businesses and educational foundation and was the subject of his song Hey Mama. 
2007 Carrie Underwood was at No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Carnival Ride’, the US Country pop singers second album and first No.1.
2008 Coldplay were declared the biggest-selling act of 2008 at the World Music Awards held in Monaco. The band picked up the prize ‘ along with the Rock Act Of The Year award ‘ after their current album ‘Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends’ topped charts around the globe. Other winners at the awards included Leona Lewis for Best Pop Female ‘ and Best New Artist, Amy Winehouse was the winner in the Female Pop/Rock award, while Alicia Keys was named best in the R&B category. Lil’ Wayne bagged the Hip-Hop/Rap Artist award, while Akon was declared the Biggest Internet Artist Of The Year. 
2008 After the anti-child-abuse group Kidscape filed a complaint, the British exam board recalled a high school music test that included convicted child molester Gary Glitter’s 1973 hit “I’m the Leader of the Gang” in its “suggested listening” section. Group head Michele Elliott said “The role model is morally decrepit. It’s just inappropriate.” 
2009 Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry confirmed that Steven Tyler had quit Aerosmith to pursue a solo career and was unsure whether the move was indefinite. No replacement was announced. 
2014 Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan was arrested following an alleged air rage incident on a flight from the United States. Ms O’Riordan was detained after a stewardess was reportedly attacked in the business section on an Aer Lingus flight from New York to Shannon, County Clare. 
2014 The Rolling Stones faced a battle to win a $12.7m (£7.9m) insurance claim for concerts they postponed when Mick Jagger’s girlfriend died. L’Wren Scott took her own life in March, prompting the Stones to postpone a tour of Australia and New Zealand. The group had taken out a policy to be paid in the event shows were cancelled due to the death of family members or others, including Scott. But underwriters said Scott’s death may not be covered by the policy. 
2015 Allen Toussaint died in the early hours of November 10, 2015, in Madrid, Spain, while on tour. Following a concert at the Teatro Lara on Calle Corredera Baja de San Pablo, he had a heart attack at his hotel and was pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital. He was 77. He was an American musician, songwriter, arranger and record producer, who was an influential figure in New Orleans R&B from the 1950s to the end of the century, described as “one of popular music’s great backroom figures.” Many musicians recorded Toussaint’s compositions, including “Java”, “Mother-in-Law”, “I Like It Like That”, “Fortune Teller”, “Ride Your Pony”, “Get Out of My Life, Woman”, “Working in the Coal Mine”, “Everything I Do Gonna Be Funky”, “Here Come the Girls”, “Yes We Can Can”, “Play Something Sweet”, and “Southern Nights”. He was a producer for hundreds of recordings, among the best known of which are “Right Place, Wrong Time”, by his longtime friend Dr. John (“Mac” Rebennack), and “Lady Marmalade”, by Labelle.
