The recently launched iPhone 16 Pro has been tested for durability in a series of ruggedization tests.
The iPhone 16 series is now officially on sale both in Turkey and around the world, and many Apple users are striving to be one of the first iPhone 16 owners. After the first iPhone 16 Pro unboxing, today the iPhone 16 Pro’s robustness tests were published.
The iPhone 16 Pro’s ruggedness test results show how much more durable the device is than its predecessor. Sam Kohl of Apple Track conducted the drop test, which also gives him the distinction of being the first person to conduct a drop test between the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro models. In fact, it’s Apple that makes this test important. Apple claimed that the iPhone 16 Pro has a second-generation Ceramic Shield protection that is 50% stronger than its predecessor.
In the first stage of one of the robustness tests, the phones were dropped on their sides near a pants pocket. Both phones suffered minor cosmetic damage. Interestingly, the second drop from chest level caused more significant damage to the iPhone 16 Pro.

This was followed by a head-level side drop test, which resulted in cracks on the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen. What’s more, while the iPhone 15 Pro was still working at this stage, the iPhone 16 Pro shut itself down. According to Kohl, the iPhone 16 Pro has thinner bezels, making the new model’s screen more vulnerable.
Robustness tests end in disappointment for iPhone 16 Pro
In other stages of the ruggedness test, both phones suffered cracks in the back glass. In screen drops, the iPhone 16 Pro’s screen took more damage, while the iPhone 15 Pro was more resilient. Finally, towards the end of the test, both models were dropped from higher distances, at which point the iPhone 15 Pro’s ceramic shield also succumbed to the test.
As we mentioned earlier, the iPhone 16 Pro’s Ceramic Shield protection seems stronger than the first-generation protection, but as the tests show, it can be more vulnerable in some situations because the screen bezels are thinner. In the tests, many people recommend iPhone users to buy a protective case for their devices.
