The name "Godsmack" originated from a personal incident where Sully Erna made fun of a band member for having a cold sore, and then he got one himself the next day. Someone mentioned it was a "god smack," and the name stuck.

In honor of the band's success and the release of their sixth studio album, "1000hp," Mayor Marty Walsh declared August 6 as "Godsmack Day" in the city of Boston.

Before changing their name to Godsmack, the band was originally called "The Scam."

During "The Godsmack Tour," the Jim Rose Circus, known for its unique and bizarre performances, served as the opening act for Godsmack.

Some stores initially pulled the album due to concerns over its lyrical content, which led to the addition of a Parental Advisory sticker to address these concerns.

"Vampires," an instrumental track from the album "Awake," was nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2002.

After releasing the album "Awake," Godsmack toured Europe in support of Limp Bizkit, further solidifying their presence in the rock music scene.

Godsmack wrote and performed "I Stand Alone" for the soundtrack of The Scorpion King. The song became the number one single at Rock Radio and the most played Active Rock song in 2002.

"Straight Out of Line" from the album Faceless was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Hard Rock Performance". The award, however, went to Evanescence's single "Bring Me to Life".

The songs "Awake" and "Sick of Life" from the album Awake were used as background music in United States Navy commercials.

"Touche" is a song from the acoustic EP The Other Side and featured Godsmack's first guitarist, Lee Richards, as well as John Kosco, who were at that time in the band Dropbox.
