Cristian Salamanca, a cleaning worker who got Messi’s autograph at the Inter Miami stadium, has been fired. “But it was worth every second,” Salamanca said.
Cristian Salamanca, a cleaning worker at the DRV PNK Stadium of Inter Miami, where Argentine soccer player Lionel Messi was transferred in 2023, announced that he was fired after getting Messi’s autograph.
Salamanca, describing what happened on the day of the incident, said, “I was cleaning the bathrooms in the area where the buses parked,” and said that when the team bus arrived at the area, the football players got off the bus one by one, and Lionel Messi was the last to get off the bus.
Salamanca called Messi “Hey, world champion!” and then handed him the Argentine team jersey and a pen. Immediately after Messi signed the jersey, stadium security came to Salamanca and removed the cleaning worker from the area. Salamanca’s job was terminated after this incident.
“But it was worth every second,” said Salamanca, a Colombian who works for a company that cleans music and sporting events and was fired after getting Messi’s autograph before the League Cup match against Orlando City.
Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is said to provide him with ‘maximum security’ and all employees, including club staff and subcontractors, are required to maintain ‘professional behavior’ before starting work and are prohibited from taking photos or autographs from Messi, Inter Miami’s number 10.
