The Achaemenid Empire, which is also called the First Persian Empire today. Persepolis, the capital of the empire, in 550 BC. It was founded in 515.

The Persian Empire was ruled by absolute rule. The country is divided into administrative units called satrapies. The satrapies, similar to today’s state system, were ruled by satraps selected from the Persian nobility. The satraps were inspected annually by the emperor’s appointees. Satraps deemed inadequate were either dismissed or punished.

Most of the people believed in Zoroastrianism. Different pagan beliefs were also seen.

Their sacred temples are Zigurats.

They used cuneiform. Writing was often used in official imperial correspondence.

Empire was destroyed as a result of the attacks of Alexander the Great during the reign of Darius.
