South America is a region that has hosted many important civilizations whose mysteries have not been fully elucidated even today. For this reason, it houses a large number of structures, artifacts and treasures from ancient civilizations that will leave modern people in amazement. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that the region is exciting for almost all archaeologists.
The English adventurer, soldier and cartographer Percy Fawcett had spent many years in the breathtaking jungles of South America.
The stories he listened to from the people of the region, read from ancient books, his boundless imagination and finally some historical artifacts he found in the lush forests of South America led the English adventurer to believe that a city he had never seen existed! Fawcett named this lost city “Z”.

1- Fawcett worked in the vast forests of South America for about 20 years
During this time, he mapped the never-before-explored forests of South America for the Royal Geographical Society (Royal Geographical Society).
2- His association with indigenous communities in South America led him to conceive the idea of the Lost City Z
In fact, Fawcett, like many Europeans, initially considered the natives of South America to be “savages”. However, working in the region for a long time caused a change in his ideas about the people of the region.
3- Percy Fawcett came across a document dated 1753, which mentions that “there is an ancient city” in the Amazon jungle
In the manuscript located in the Brazilian National Library, it was written that a group of Portuguese explorers discovered an unusual city deep in the Amazon jungle. What was written in this historical document was almost identical to the stories told by the indigenous people. That is why Fawcett’s belief that there is a lost city in the depths of the Amazon has become even stronger.

4- in 1920, he set out on a journey to find the lost city, which is enshrined in ancient narratives and documents
Trusting in his adventurous spirit and military virtues, Fawcett set out on this difficult journey alone. But this trip did not go very well for the English adventurer. Therefore, he had to interrupt his journey and return to civilization.
5- Fawcett, who began a search for resources in the name of discovering the Lost City of Z, has become an object of ridicule in the UK

6- in 1925, he took action once again to explore the Lost City of Z
Fawcett had found the financial support necessary for him to explore the lost city. So, this time he set out, taking his son named Jack and his friend named Raleigh Rimell with him. the expedition of 3 adventurers began in June 1925.
Fawcett wrote his last known letter on May 29, 1925. He wrote that he was planning to move to a never-before-visited area of the Amazon jungle…
No news was received from Fawcett and his comrades after this date. The adventurers never returned from the depths of the Amazon jungle. The Lost City of Z has never been discovered…
7- What “happened” to Fawcett and her team still remains a mystery
A few years after the adventurers disappeared, some of their belongings were found. But what really happened to Fawcett and her team was never revealed. Some suggested that they got lost in the forest and died of hunger. According to some, they were massacred by wild natives living in the forest!
8- The Lost City of Z may indeed exist!

Some time after the British adventurer Fawcett and his team disappeared in 1925, scientists discovered an ancient settlement called “Kuhikugu” in the Amazon jungle.
Moreover, the buildings in this new city were also very similar to those described in the stories of the indigenous peoples! Today, some scientists think that the artifacts found by Fawcett by chance in the Amazon forests may also belong to this settlement.
