1935 Thirteen-year-old Judy Garland signs with MGM and goes on to star in a number of hit films, including Meet Me in St. LouisEaster Parade, and The Wizard of Oz.

1949 “That Lucky Old Sun” by Frankie Laine hits #1 in America

1960 The Beatles performed at the Indra Club, Grosse Freiheit, Hamburg, West Germany.

1962 Barbra Streisand signs with Columbia Records.

1964 The Beatles’ first film, A Hard Day’s Night, becomes the first movie to debut behind the “Iron Curtain” of Communist countries when it is shown in Prague.

1966 Jimi Hendrix appeared live for the first time in the UK when he jammed with Cream at their gig at London Polytechnic.

1967 Thieves broke into Mick Jagger’s London flat in England and stole jewelry and furs belonging to his then girlfriend Marianne Faithfull.

1969 The Beatles release Abbey Road in the US.

1970 Jimi Hendrix is buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Seattle. His headstone reads: “Forever In Our Hearts, James ‘Jimi’ Hendrix 1942 – 1970.”

1970 Janis Joplin makes her last recordings, singing “Mercedes Benz,” which is included on her posthumous Pearl album a capella. She dies three days later.

2019 American blues guitarist Beverly Watkins died at age 80. She worked with artists like James Brown, B.B. King, and Ray Charles.
