The idea of a remake of Glee sparked controversy among fans of the show.
The possibility of a Glee remake came from the show’s creator Ryan Murphy recently. Although Murphy was busy filming other dramas, the successful producer admitted that Glee had a special place in his heart.
Murphy shared an article on Instagram in which he voiced the idea of re-filming the drama:
Imagine it’s 2009, and I lived in a world where I knew Lea Michele, Ben Platt and Beanie Feldstein. If I had access to that talent, here’s the new pilot: Lea and Ben are frenemies who fight for the heart and soul of the Glee Club. Ben is also on the football team, and pretty much sleeps with the entire school and is the heartthrob of McKinley. Beanie is their mutual best friend, and torn. Suddenly, Beanie joins forces with Sue Sylvester, joins Glee Club and becomes the main soloist and the ruthless star of the club. “Lea and Ben have to then join forces to dethrone her. I WANT TO SHOOT THIS DO OVER PILOT,” Murphy added, “maybe I will?”
This article shared by Murphy received different reactions from fans. Some expressed excitement at the idea of a remake of the drama, while others said they did not like it. Many fans also stated that they would like to see the main cast of the series.
But even if this version of the series was to be shot, many actors in the cast would not have appeared in the series again. Chris Colfer, who portrays the iconic Wolf Hummel character, has made it clear he doesn’t want to return to his role in the series. Also, Cory Monteith, who appeared in the series, died a few years ago, while Mark Salling committed suicide.
However, we do not know if Ryan Murphy wrote this article seriously. Maybe to measure the reaction of the fans, maybe he wanted our memories to recur. We will obviously wait to see what happens.
