22nd April 1983 – Bob Dylan spends the day in Studio A, Power Station, New York City, New York working on songs for his yet to be released 22nd Studio Album Infidels.
Unusually for Dylan – he booked a month of studio time in advance to work on this album and with Mark Knopfler as co-producer spent a total of 19 days in the studio to perfect the songs for the album (and future releases as these sessions saw input into both Empire Burlesque and Knocked Out Loaded).
Today, the 11th Infidels session saw Dylan predominantly focused on the recording of ‘Foot Of Pride’ with 9 takes of the song. The following two sessions in the studio on the 23rd and 25th, then further takes on sessions on the 26th,27th and 29th also saw this focus on Foot Of Pride continue. The song holds the record for the most number of takes for any Dylan song with a total of 43, including 14 complete versions all in one session.
The song ultimately did not make the official release of the album as Dylan failed to find the right formula for it, however it saw final release on the 1991 release The Bootleg Series Volume 1-3, this release was taken from the recording session on the 25th April
