The Jackson Family
He was born on the 29th of August 1958 in Gary, Indiana, the 7th child of the family. His full name was Michael Joseph Jackson.
The first music experience
He started his music career in 1964 when he was 6 years old with the band “The Jackson 5” founded by his father.
The stars are starting to shine
The group continued to work as an amateur until 1968. They won first place in a competition held at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. This caught the attention of Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown, one of the biggest record labels of the time. They signed a contract with Motown in 1968 and moved to California. This was the first major development to pave the way for Michael.
Solo albums
MJ is becoming more and more prominent in The Jackson 5 – especially with his dance. He released his first solo album, “Got To Be There”, “I”, “Music and Me” and “Forever Michael”, depending on The Jackson 5.
Breaking point: Destiny
As of 1973, the group’s album sales began to decline. The group left Motown in 1976 and signed a contract with Epic Records. They changed their names to The Jacksons because one of the brothers stayed at Motown. The Destiny album released by The Jacksons in 1978 exploded and became one of the group’s most successful albums. There is another reason why we call it “breaking point” for the release of this album, but! This album, which also contains MJ’s own compositions, sold more than 2 million and made him famous as a composer.
First solo: Off the Wall
Jackson met Quincy Jones in the musical “The Wiz”, where he played a minor role. While the movie was under production, Jackson and Jones decided to make Michael’s first independent solo album together. Thus, in 1979, “Off the Wall”, the first independent solo album of the famous singer, came out of Epic Records under the production of Jones. This album reached huge sales figures and made MJ the idol of the pop music world. The album was awarded by American Music Awards in the categories of “Best Soul / R&B Album”, “Best Soul / R&B Male Singer” and “Best Soul / R&B Song” (Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough). . Michael received the first Grammy award in the category of “Best R&B Male Vocalist” with the song “Don’t Stop‘ Til You Get Enough “in the same year. Also called “pop idol” was started in this period.
Thriller
This magnificent album, released from Epic Records in 1982, has sold over 55 million copies worldwide. This album still maintains its No. 1 ranking in the “best selling albums in the world” list. The album remained on top for 37 weeks and on the Billboard for 122 weeks
Moonwalk
Yes, that celebrity is such a backwards-walking movement. The Jackson brothers attended Motown’s 25th anniversary celebrations as The Jacksons. While MJ was playing Billie Jean, she made this foot-swipe called moonwalk, and this movement went down in history as Michael Jackson’s trademark.
Lucas and Coppola
In 1986, he starred in a short (but expensive) movie called Captain EO, produced by George Lucas and directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The movie Jackson’s flavor as Captain EO cost $ 17 million and was released in Disneyland.
Dangerous
In 1991, Jackson changed the music company and signed a contract with Sony. Also in 1991, the artist’s new album Dangerous was released. The bomb part of the album was Black Or White, as even those who were children at that time would easily remember. The clip, directed by John Landis, created this event. Due to the controversy he created, MJ published a press release, expressing his sadness, and removed the controversial sections. Again, very strong pieces such as Remember The Time, In The Closet, Jam came out from this album and 22 million copies were sold from the album.
Halftime concert
MJ gave a mini concert in 1993 during the halftime of the 27th Super Bowl game. With this concert, he gathered 100 million people on the screen and broke another record. At the 35th Grammy award ceremony, Jackson received the “Living Legend” award, and a month later, the “Humanist of the Year” award by Soul Train.
30th year party
MJ held a celebration party at Madison Square Garden in September 2001, in honor of his 30th anniversary of his solo career. Names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Macaulay Culkin and Whitney Houston attended the party. Michael once again showed that he deserved the nickname “King of Pop” in this party, where he was on stage with his brothers.
Living Legend
In May 2006, he received the “Living Legend” award at the Video Music Awards organized by MTV in Tokyo. One feature of this night was that MJ appeared on the screens for the first time after a long break.
MJ is not dead!
A large number of people, with or without a fan, claimed that MJ did not die after his death. This issue was discussed for a long time after June 25, and it was claimed that the police took serious action.
Physical change
We all remember clearly the black and white version of Michael Jackson. Beginning in the 80s, some physical changes begin to appear in MJ. Her black skin began to turn white and until 1987, the white areas were closed with black make-up. As the amount of white area on her skin increased after 1987, the black areas started to be closed with white makeup. This is why the skin color is turned on is “vitiligo” disease
Marriages
Michael had two marriages. She first married Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley. This marriage lasted 18 months. This marriage of MJ, who made her second marriage with Deborah Jeanne Rowe, did not last long and ended in an eventful divorce in 1999. Jackson has three children. Even her daughter, Paris, made a sincere speech at the ceremony held after MJ’s death.
Symbolic armband
Notice that Michael Jackson’s clothing has an armband. That armband was an accessory that was attached to all the suffering, exploited and starved children in the world.
