December 16, 1965 Mamas & the Papas Recorded “Monday, Monday”

On this date December 16, 1965 the initial instrumental tracks for “Monday, Monday” by The Mamas & the Papas were recorded at Western Recorders in Hollywood. The song was written and arranged by John Phillips, produced by Lou Adler, and engineered by Bones Howe.

Released in March of 1966, it went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was the only record by the group to do so. On March 2, 1967, the song won for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

It also hit #1 on Cashbox, and Canadian RPM charts.

It appeared on their debut album “If You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears”
