1- You’ve gotta learn to love yourself and live your own life. Then you can go out in the world and try and figure everything else out.
2- Running away from something doesn’t do anything except put distance.
3- I think I’m still a lone wolf, internally. And I always will be.
4- We’re all people. We all need to just try and find a way to love each other and accept each other and try and make the world a better place.
5- It’s very tempting for certain generations to say, ‘Well, I just want to be in a band, and I want to be a rock star,’ or whatever. That’s not what it’s about. Firstly, you’ve got to be in it for the love and the passion that you have for the music, and then you take it from there.
6- Heavy metal is always going to be there. At its core, it’s all about a primitive connection we all need to keep in our lives.
7- This overpowering relief of love conquering any kind of difficulty and hardship in life – that love is forever, even with people that we lost in the physical world.
8- The great thing about Priest, in all the years that we’ve been making heavy metal music, is that we’ve always kind of carried this metal flag, if you will – this beacon of hope that, no matter what you may be going through in life, there’s always a sense of overcoming difficulties, a sense of winning, a sense of coming out on top.
9- Sometimes when I’m writing lyrics, it’s a very loose train of thought, and wherever that takes me, I let it flow.
10- When I come off stage, I just shut up. I try as best I can not to use my voice at all. You know I love to talk, but I try when I come off stage to have the minimum amount of vocal interaction because I need at least a good 10 hours to just recover from my form of extreme singing.
11- It’s best to keep things as free and open as you can. It’s good to have a template, but then you go back and dissect it and see where you can make improvements. That’s pretty much been the case with every Priest song that’s ever been written.
12- That’s the life really isn’t it? You write. You record. You play. And it never grows old.
13- Never lose perspective on where you are and what you’ve got. And how you got it.
14- Life is a beautiful thing, but a lot of it, it kind of replicates itself.
15- I love people. I love being in a band. I love making music.
16- I pray quite a bit, actually. And even if you don’t believe in prayer, just have a go. Pray for a good day, or just pray for your friend, or whatever it might be. And it’s amazing, man, ’cause it absolutely works. I guarantee, it genuinely does work.
